As we gear up for a new season...
I put together a few (what I consider to be) staple pieces for any autumn wardrobe. The formula is simple, consisting of just a few, but very versatile pieces. I've linked some of my favorites below, but curating a closet full of basics is key!

SWEATERS: I believe you can never have too many sweaters in the way Carrie Bradshaw believes you can never have too many shoes. I love this striped knit from & Other Stories (linked above) - a great way to add interest to a look! I've been shopping H&M, Everlane, and Madewell for other basic sweaters.
JACKET: A leather jacket is an excellent way to layer a fall ensemble. I prefer a more relaxed look with my leather jacket, but still flattering. Madewell gives that nice in-between fitted and relaxed. The leather jacket I own is from AllSaints and one of my favorite pieces ever.
SHOES: Ballet flats, we meet again. I developed a strong dislike for these in high school because they seemed so dated. It's weird to see flats in storefronts again, but I've come back around to loving them. Flats are the perfect shoe to throw on with jeans or pants to a add more femininity, if you're into that. I personally love the ballet mules (linked) for a more relaxed vibe.
SHIRTS: Really, any white button down is a great addition to your closet - year round! There is a surprising amount of discourse around what qualifies as the perfect button down, but to me, it depends on what you like. The H&M one above is more sturdy and less flowy. I prefer this if I don't plan on tucking it. If I want a more manicured look, I would go for a linen/linen blend so it tucks easily.
JEANS: OK, any straight leg jeans are perfect for fall. I personally love Levi's, but honestly, Abercrombie & Fitch has proven to be the unsung hero of the denim world (linked above). Affordable, and well-fitting. A straight leg is incredibly versatile as the pair allows you to wear both boots/booties and flats with equal ease. Ultimately, whatever works for you is best. I love J Crew denim as well (linked), especially the cali boot!
COAT: Queue all the Kevin McAllister's dad jokes... But really, how can you go wrong with a camel coat? This is high on my list for the autumn season and into the winter. Mango (linked) has some amazing staple pieces, like the long wool coat shown above, that don't disappoint. I've found some surprising gems at H&M as well if you're in the market for a nice, long coat.
BOOTIES: I am a sucker for a Chelsea boot. Lately I'm leaning more into heeled booties, too. I used to stray away from anything with a heel since I already have some height, but I can't get over how chic the heel looks. Not to mention, the pointed toe! At the end of the day, any simple black boot is perfect for your fall wardrobe.
ACCESSORIES: If jewelry is your thing... Mod & Jo has some amazing affordable gold-plated pieces. I love a simple gold necklace to add some interest to any outfit. Sometimes just a small accessory makes me feel more put-together. Earrings, a necklace, a gold ring, or bracelet can really elevate a simple outfit. Other jewelry retails I can't get enough of are Catbird, Gorjana, and Mejuri.
Additionally, I always have a claw clip on hand - especially at work. I wear these more for practicality than for a fashion statement, but since they are super 'in' right now, why not make it cute, too? I gravitate towards the classic tortoise shell, but the checked pattern is adorable, which is why I added it to the capsule.
TEE: My absolute favorite black tee is this one from Everlane. It's stretchy, ribbed, and the sleeves are the best length. Every closet needs a plain black tee, right? It goes so well under a n y t h i n g - a blazer, denim or leather jacket, or a coat. Even on it's own it looks great - especially with simple gold jewelry!
There are many other things I could have included in the capsule, but true to the namesake, I kept it very simple. I personally also love sneakers for fall (Converse or Veja are my favorites), low-heel boots (esp. if you aren't into a heel), and a nice denim jacket (Levi's or Madewell for me)… oh, and you can never go wrong with a simple black dress!

My goal is to create a wardrobe that lasts several seasons and is truly wearable. I love clothes, but I don't love having to ponder what I can wear each day. A few basics make for timeless style...and make it way easier to get dressed. I'm so, so excited for cooler weather and the fall season!
What else is in your fall capsule wardrobe?!
xx,
